The reviews for the Quality Standard Q for tourism quality of the beaches of Orihuela are now completed
After three intensive working days by the technical staff and the auditors, the tests of our beaches are finished according to the standards ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and UNE 187001 (quality mark Q for tourism quality). The inspectors have visited the beaches of Punta Prima, Cala Mosca, Cala Estaca, Glea and Mil Palmeras.
The city councillors for beaches (Luisa BonĂŠ), for street cleaning and solid urban waste (DĂĄmaso Aparicio), and for tourism (SofĂa Ălvarez), have set out what targets they have planned for the coming year 2018.
Among the objectives set by the city councillor for beaches is the purchase and installation of wooden huts for the rescue service, which will match the same type of wooden furniture already available on our beaches. These wooden huts will be designed to contain a treatment room, a relaxation area and toilets. Steps have also been taken to improve accessibility to the beaches through various measures: the acquisition of higher quality beach piers that are wider and non-slip, thus facilitating access to the rest areas for people with reduced mobility. The furniture for these rest zones will be improved (the wooden floor and the pergolas) and the number of amphibious wheelchairs will be increased to allow bathing also on other beaches that do not yet have this service. In addition, toilets for the disabled are to be provided. Last but not least, BonĂŠ pointed out that she is working on the development of a project to make Cala Cerrada easier to access, so that everyone can easily reach this beach and that next year this beach will also be a candidate for the nomination of a blue flag.
The city councillor for street cleaning and solid urban waste has in turn announced an increase in the amount for the elimination of Posidonia (seaweed) in comparison to the last year’s contract. He also communicated about the acquisition of additional waste containers for solid waste and recycling this year, which has improved the cityscape and made it possible to cope with a larger capacity of waste and to increase recycling.
He also pointed out that he intends to increase the manpower and cleaning vehicles in the coastal area.
Finally, the city councillor for Tourism has shown the catalogue, which was recently completed for advertising purposes and in which the beaches of Orihuela are presented with all available services. In addition, the city councillor has committed to improve the signposting of our beaches.
We do not yet have the results of the reviews, but the city councillor for beaches is confident and she said that she is satisfied with the work of all the city council offices involved and she hopes that the result will also be satisfactory.
